🔥 For anyone whose to-do list is on fire

Helloooo, Friend!

You're subscribed to Simple Everyday Home, the super-fun newsletter where I share my tried and true tips for decluttering your home and keeping it clean. Which, admittedly, doesn't sound very fun at all, but trust me, your coffee won't taste as caffeinated without it.

You know those days where you’re just sitting there drinking your vanilla coffee like a normal, moderately sane human, but your brain is doing laps around everything you should be doing? Like every. single. thing.

Yeah. That was me today.

Honestly, it started yesterday—Brian took the day off work and we spent it doing yard work and hanging out.

It was great (except for that excruciating hour spent yanking weeds one by one out of our brick patio—*gah*)… but it also wasn’t part of my plan.

And as lovely as it was, today I woke up feeling behind. (For real, how is it that ONE DAY OFF equals seventeen days behind!?)

For starters, I needed to go grocery shopping—always a blast. And then I had to put everything away, which somehow takes four lifetimes longer than the shopping itself.

Plus, I had things—lots of things—on my to-do list that didn’t get touched. I felt frazzled. My brain was buzzing with life stuff, business stuff, and a general swirl of “why do I feel like I just got smacked by a tornado when everything looks fine?”

But here’s the thing: I didn’t need to fix my whole life. I just needed to do a few small things to help my brain get out of panic mode.

So I took a shower and got dressed—nothing fancy, just enough to feel like a human and not a cave goblin.

I did a quick home reset. Made the bed. Straightened the couch. Cleaned up the dishes. Started a load of laundry.

I picked a dinner from my menu plan and wrote all the components on a post-it so I wouldn’t forget anything (highly underrated strategy, by the way).

None of those things were revolutionary. But they grounded me.

I even filled out my paper planner—which I had completely ignored so far this week—and did a little brain dump to someone who listens without judging—ChatGPT, of course. 😂

But maybe the best thing I did? I played the “worst case scenario” game.

What’s the “worst-case scenario” if I don’t declutter the shelf-of-doom in my closet today like I planned?

Nothing. The shelf will be just as messy tomorrow as it’s been for the past two years.

What if I don’t spend time training the dogs today?

They’ll be just as naughty as they were yesterday—but, hey, maybe tomorrow I’ll have more patience (or a bigger bag of cheese prepped).

The truth is, most of the things I was stressed about weren’t urgent. And they weren’t going to break me if they waited another day.

As long as we have food to eat and clothes to wear? We’re good.

So if your head’s been spinning too—take a breath.

Do one small thing to ground yourself. Play the worst-case-scenario game. Start the dishwasher. Figure out dinner. Dump your brain.

Because sometimes you don’t need to conquer the day. You just need clean forks, a post-it, and a large bottle of vanilla creamer.

Cheering you on,
Amy

P.S. I'm using ChatGPT to make a dog training plan for me every week, and I'm kind of loving it (so are the pups). And next week, I'm asking Chat to fold my laundry. #goals
