Helloooo, Friend! You're subscribed to Simple Everyday Home, the super-fun newsletter where I share my tried and true tips for decluttering your home and keeping it clean. Which, admittedly, doesn't sound very fun at all, but trust me, your coffee won't taste as caffeinated without it. I've been decluttering latelyâand apparently also running a scented candle adoption center. Who knew!?!! Iâve found candles in drawers, cabinets, closets, behind books, under towels... Basically, if thereâs a flat surface in my house, thereâs been a candle squatting on it like it pays taxes. Some of them were stashed away âfor later.â Some were sitting out like decor, looking pretty but never living their purpose. And I had to ask myself: Whyyyyy? đ Why do we buy things we love and then never use them? Why do we save the candle that smells like heaven in a jarâbut burn the cheap one that smells like someone mopped with fruit punch? Itâs clutter. But itâs clutter we kinda like, so we tell ourselves itâs fine. But letâs be honest: a candle you never light is just a Toasted Vanilla Chai guilt stick. It takes up space, collects dust, and stares at you with judgment every time you reach for the leave-in conditioner. So Iâm starting a new habit. I'm burning the candles, y'all. Every freaking day. Not for guests. Not for a âspecial occasion.â Not to cover up the smell of wet dog. I'm lighting up just because Iâm home. Just because I like it. Just because I canâand because my house deserves to smell like Sugared Snickerdoodle instead of microwaved broccoli. Sometimes, the best way to declutter something is to use it. So if youâve got stuff hanging around that youâre âsavingââthe cherry-almond hand lotion, the cotton candy bath bomb, the notepad with flowers that look like they were hand-painted by Claude Monet himselfâmaybe todayâs the day. Use the soap. Scribble the list. Mess up the journal. Slather the lotion. Break out the fancy salt. Wear the red lipstick. Drink the imported coffee. And for goodness sake, go light the dang candle. Cheering you on, P.S. I just have to knowâwhat secret stash have you been âsavingâ for the zombie apocalypse? Reply and tell me. I promise not to judge (unless it's fruitcake-scented candlesâthen we seriously need to talk).
